This is an actual case study that was presented to the participants of the Financial Modeling World Cup 2023, Stage 1 (January 27-30, 2023).

Case study description:

Recycle Kings Inc. is a fictional company in the fictional country of Notsogreenland. Recycle Kings operates a waste recycling plant that processes waste collected from the inhabitants of Notsogreenland. The process is quite intensive in terms of energy consumption. Recently Netsogreenland faced a substantial rise in its energy prices. This has decreased the profitability of Recycle Kings business. The company has just closed its books for the month of January and noticed a significant increase in energy costs and a drop in profit. This was the reason why they have invited you to advise them on the possible actions to improve their bottom line.

The company operates a waste recycling plant that consumes a substantial amount of energy. The labor costs and energy costs are the two main expenses for the company. The company wants to optimize their working hours to maximize profit while considering constraints such as energy prices, labor costs, and shift duration. The challenge is to find the most efficient schedule for the workers, taking into account the fluctuating energy prices and the potential loss of profit during high-cost periods.
