This is an actual case study that was presented to the participants of the Financial Modeling World Cup 2022, Stage 8 (November 2022).

Case study description:

Pharmaceutics Medical Inc. (PM) is a company working in the pharma industry. Over the last couple of years, PM has significantly grown its sales and now reached its maximum capacity in manufacturing some of the products. PM plans to expand its manufacturing capacity by investing in new manufacturing equipment.

The objective of this case is to evaluate a capital investment project for Pharmaceutics Medical Inc. (PM) by creating a 10-year annual financial model based on given assumptions. This case aims to test the ability of finance professionals to calculate project profitability using different financial ratios like NPV, IRR, and XNPV, as well as evaluate the effects of borrowing money and additional financial impacts on project profitability.

PM plans to expand its manufacturing capacity by investing in new manufacturing equipment. However, the company has reached its maximum capacity in manufacturing some products, and it needs to invest in new equipment to produce extra volumes of medications. The investment requires $925,000 for the manufacturing equipment and additional costs for transportation, mounting, and personnel training.
